I like to ride my bike and swim at our family shack at Orford. I like swimming because I love the beach and water. I like riding my bike because I can go really fast. (age 12)

By the end of the week I am often fairly stressed. I try to make a point of going for a six kilometre run on a Sunday morning along the beach. It is the most effective and quickest way I know to go from stressed to relaxed. It takes 30 minutes, is enjoyable and is the best investment of time I know.
Regular physical activity has always improved my life. Luckily I grew up with two supporting parents, encouraging me to participate in various sports I enjoyed. From AFL to athletics, basketball, hockey or just swimming at the local beach or skateboarding/rollerskating around home. As an adult I enjoy mountain bike riding, surfing, jogging and bushwalking and I know it keeps my mind and body functioning in top gear. I’m grateful to my parents for this gift and hope to pass it on to my two year old son.
Walking helped me lose about 15 kilograms and made me feel healthier and happier. I am fortunate to live near a beaut reserve with walks alongside the Don River near Devonport. I can walk to the beach in 25 minutes or a 1 hour return trip. I also walk as often as I can into the CBD to shop, have a coffee and pay bills etc. Walking keeps me flexible and sane – without it I begin to feel grumpy and stiff!
