I have a number of medical conditions which can make life hard but I find more than 30 minutes nearly every day to exercise. Usually at lunch time, it helps me get through the afternoon at work without feeling the slump!
When I moved I found the local council program provided many opportunities for me to meet people and exercise.

After years of inactivity and an unhealthy lifestyle I started to exercise in my mid to late 30s. Now at 47 I am fitter and healthier than I have been all my life. Some would say that I’m a gym junkie because I can’t miss my daily dose of exercise, but if it means that I get to feel this good, I’ll wear it!
In 1991 I had a fluid on my brain, it was Hydrocephalus. I was working until 28 years of age and then something changed in my brain and I finished up with cysts. One of the cysts was sitting on the pituitary gland. This gland controls hormones from the brain to the rest of the body. When I was diagnosed with the gland problems I spent nine months in hospital and had an operation on my head.
I started Heartmoves session three years ago. I was 120 kg before I started Heartmoves and now I’m down to 95kg. The benefits I have gained from these sessions are I have more energy and I’m more active. With all the physical activity I do now, nothing is too hard and I’m willing to do things straight away. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with ‘depressive anxiety’ and medicated. I took up other treatment strategies including an exercise routine in a gym. I ceased the need for medication a year later and now maintain an active lifestyle which includes exercise. The mental illness is now under control.
I was an ambassador for the ‘kilos for the community’ program funded under the Healthy Communities initiative. I have lost 25 kilograms over 12 months and now undertake regular exercise, both structured and unstructured, along with changing my eating habits to incorporate fantastic fresh local produce.
At 64 years of age I have enrolled with a personal trainer for the first time to enable me to journey the Inca Trail. Absolutely enjoying the exhilarating feeling of regular exercise – I will do it!!
