Windsor Heart Moves

Medical professionals increasingly find there are limited places to refer their older patients for general fitness, strength training, falls prevention, flexibility and post rehabilitative therapy.

This is a particular problem for the West Tamar municipality, which has the largest percentage of ageing population in Australia.

Windsor Heart Moves is a collaborative initiative that provides a weekly, safe, low-cost exercise program for seniors with a chronic condition or disability. The program encourages sedentary people to be conscious of their health, exercising regularly as they socialise in a friendly group atmosphere.

Warrane Heart Moves

The project aims to increase access for senior members of the Warrane Mornington community to healthy gentle exercise for little or no cost. Heart Moves classes are tailored to the needs of the participants and their health conditions.

A healthy lunch is provided on a fortnightly basis, encouraging social connections and further strengthening the program’s outcomes. This provides health benefits, and assists participants to increase their independence and stay in their own homes longer. The program has been very successful with an average of 10 participants attending each week.

Lynette’s story

Being a carer of an adult daughter and having a mother who no longer drives, walking with The Heart Foundation and participating in two Heart Moves groups a week is something we can enjoy together. Three generations getting healthy! I have been walk organiser for two and a half years and thoroughly enjoy seeing new and old walkers making new friends and encouaging each other.
