My physical activity

I joined Heartmoves because I wasn’t fit and had high blood pressure. I appreciate all the help and benefits I’ve gained from exercise. I am physically stronger and I can walk more comfortably for longer periods. Physical activity has helped make me feel better. The Heartmoves instructors are very good and helpful everyone brings something different. Socially it’s been great meeting new people.

It’s never too late

Hi my name is Krishna and I am 55 years old. I am from Nepal and a very hard worker. I used to do farm work and constructing in Nepal. Now I live in Australia and I can’t speak English so have difficulty in getting a job. I have got diabetes and my eye doctor suggested I exercise. I now enjoy an exercise program called Heartmoves and it has given me health benefits. I enjoy doing my exercise and it makes me feel better than before.

Dhan maya’s story

My name is Dhan maya Rai from Nepal and I am 70 years old. I have been in Australia for about 30 months but I can’t speak English very well. I joined Heartmoves sessions and now enjoy the benefits of my exercise and I would like to do more physical activity and be healthy. I feel better now because I’m being active rather than sitting at home lonely and being bored.

Aidan’s story

I enjoy going to the YMCA to do boxing and weights. I’m very keen to do body building and it’s working. It’s working very well. I’m in my second year at the Glenorchy Heartmoves and I also go to Cosmos pretty much everyday and do lots of activities. For me this works very well and I’m building muscle.

My journey

In 1991 I had a fluid on my brain, it was Hydrocephalus. I was working until 28 years of age and then something changed in my brain and I finished up with cysts. One of the cysts was sitting on the pituitary gland. This gland controls hormones from the brain to the rest of the body. When I was diagnosed with the gland problems I spent nine months in hospital and had an operation on my head.

I started Heartmoves session three years ago. I was 120 kg before I started Heartmoves and now I’m down to 95kg. The benefits I have gained from these sessions are I have more energy and I’m more active. With all the physical activity I do now, nothing is too hard and I’m willing to do things straight away. I recommend Heartmoves and physical activity classes to everyone because they have benefits for all.

Mathew’s story

I started doing exercise two years ago. I think it helps me to get moving and do more. I also go to gymnastics every Tuesday. I am trying hard to lose weight. I work at the YMCA, do weights and dance and of course join in the Heartmoves program. The reason for this is to be social, get out and meet new people and make friends.
